Cala'n Porter

On the southern coast of Menorca lies Cala'n Porter (Cala en Porter), one of the island's most established and popular resorts.  Cala'n Porter is one of Menorca's livelier towns and is a favourite with British holidaymakers.

Cova d'en Xoroi, MenorcaThe town offers many good bars and restaurants, together with a variety of shops and supermarkets.  Although the entertainment is mainly hotel based, a number of bars in Cala en Porter feature regular evening shows, karaoke and discos, one of the most famous and exciting being at the stunning Cova d'en Xoroi - a nightclub inside a series of natural caves carved into the cliff face, which provides revellers with a magnificent backdrop to dance away until the small hours.

Cala'n Porter, MenorcaMany hotels have excellent, child-friendly facilities while there are other attractions in the town centre to keep the little ones happy.  The beach in Cala'n Porter is a fairly large, horseshoe shape of golden sand enclosed by a rocky headland making it one of the more sheltered beaches in Menorca.  There are a few shops and bars nearby with a large car park a few yards away.  The rocks around the headland make a  perfect platform for swimming and snorkelling.  The beach can be accessed by road or a steep flight of steps from the town centre - be warned though, there are nearly 200 steps to negotiate which can be daunting if you have young children!  A road train travels to the beach from Cala'n Porter centre, but can work out quite expensive for a large family.

A nearby attraction to Cala'n Porter is Cala Coves - ancient burial caves carved into the cliff face over 2,000 years ago.  Access is by way of a (very) winding and (very) rough road, but once there the views are magnificent.

Although there is a regular bus service to Mahon, a car is recommended for those wishing to capture the best the area has to offer.
