On the east coast of Menorca sits the unspoilt and secluded fishing village of Es Grau. With no hotels and a few private villas for rent, Es Grau gives a feel of 'old Menorca' - the small harbour, with traditional fishing boats, and tiny white washed houses providing a typically Menorcan atmosphere.
The main attraction of Es Grau is the large, almost landlocked, bay of soft sand
that provides, possibly, the safest beach for children throughout Menorca. The (very)
shallow water is a haven for watersports enthusiasts with pedalos, canoes and dingys
for hire. Backed by sand dunes and pine woods, the beach leads to a freshwater lake,
S'Albufera, in the middle of what is a National Park. Es Grau beach is very popular
with the residents of Mahon and, consequently. can be very busy at weekends.
The area is ideal for walkers and bird spotters and yet is only a 10 minute drive to the capital, Mahon.
There is a harbour-side restaurant and a few bars and shops, but Es Grau is for those wanting a calm, relaxing and tranquil holiday setting in Menorca.
