Wow, the summer season in Menorca is almost over already!  Been quite a mixed bag, weather-wise, compared to last year anyway.  I don’t think we saw a rain cloud from May – September last year whereas this year I think we have seen rain throughout the summer.  Quite welcome at times though, given the temperatures!

Also coming to the end of our first year of “proper” Property Management – last year was more as favours for people.  Been an eye-opener in more ways than one.  How people treat others properties, whether they are happy with everything – or not!  No two people are alike, obviously, and this certainly helps towards keeping us on our toes lol.

We have been extremely fortunate in the people whose properties we look after – lovely, lovely people, and a real pleasure to work with them this year, and hopefully next year too.

I’ve never done so much washing and ironing in my life – I reckon I have washed and ironed more in these last few months than I have done previously, over a lot of years!  Thank goodness for my wonderful steam press (though I am still waiting for the delivery of the stand).

Today I am going for lunch at Bar Irenes in Calas Fons with one of our clients – we have been collecting the odd euros and cents found whilst cleaning and have actually managed to accumulate nearly enough to treat us lunch out – certainly won’t need to subsidise it much.  It’s like a big Thank You for all the hard work this summer 🙂

Well, that’s about it for now – sure there is far more I could say but I will leave it at that for now.

Crikey, I cannot believe it was November when I last posted on here.  We are now in February 2010 – where on earth has the time gone?

Well, weather-wise, as said in my last post, it has been a mixed bag.  Strange really because apart from definitely winter, and definitely summer, there doesn’t seem to be much in between.  It has been cold, very cold due to the wind, and damp, over the last couple of months and we even had snow for a day!  It actually feels colder than it did back home in the UK alot of the time and this is apparently because it is such a little island and surrounded by water, so mix in the wind and it feels very cold and damp – goes right through to your bones.

The walls inside most of the villas, apartments etc.  tend to suffer badly over winter and nearly everyone I speak to accepts that you need to get a few bottles of bleach, rubber gloves, scouring pads and start cleaning off the mildew which is very common.

Anyway, we have been fortunate enough to have had a few very nice days, especially when sheltered from the wind so fingers crossed things are starting to improve a bit.  Certainly not as cold as it was and even our 10 little tortoises have all popped out to eat a bit of fresh greenery.  I was a little worried that a few of them might have perished over winter but no, they all look absolutely fine and healthy.

August was more of the same – very hot, very sunny – wonderful.

The weather did break in September and came as quite a shock to the system – much cooler, lots of rain and felt like we had been transported back to the UK!

October was a mixed bag, sunshine, wind, rain, warm and then cold – I suppose nothing unexpected really and certainly can’t complain given the continuous glorious sunshine and heat during the summer months.

1st – 23rd July 2009

Apart from one or two little blips, so far the weather in Menorca for July has been hot, hot and very hot – a record of 5 times in the pool for me today in a vain attempt to cool down.  Certainly not complaining, but does become a bit difficult to get motivated to do anything when it is this warm.

17th June – 30th June 2009

The last day of June already – where has the month gone?  Well, apart from 3-4 days when it was a mixture of clouds and strongish breeze (and I think there was a very brief shower) the month has been blisteringly hot – hotter than the norm for Menorca in June apparently.  Even during the overcast days it was still very pleasant, temperature-wise, in fact it was a bit of a welcome respite.  This morning when I checked the thermometer (in the direct sun) it was at 42 degrees C – thank goodness for swimming pools!  See you in July.

Very hard to remember just how cold and damp it was in November/December.  Another beautiful day today – temperature currently 32.4 degrees C (8.25 p.m.)

And another very, very warm day – broke out into a sweat just pushing a hoover around this morning – should have waited until after I had done it before I had my shower!  Live and learn.  Remained very warm for the whole day, so warm in fact that eating our tea in the bbq area, which is in the direct sunshine around 5-6 p.m. proved too much for me to cope with so I had to move back under the shade!  Thermometer showing 25.7 degrees C at just gone 11 p.m.

Plenty of sunshine again today with a few clouds around but nothing major.  A bit more of breeze making it feel slightly cooler than of late.  Temperature currently showing 28.9 C in the sun (4.45 p.m.)

Very short shower first thing, with a bit of accompanying thunder.  Then the sun came out for the rest of the day – lots of gardening done.

Very hot and sunny day, all day.  Martin was doing some gardening for one of our customers whilst I did the weekly shop – went to pick him up and helped him finish off.  Drove home and both in the pool 10 minutes later – bliss.

And another lovely day with plenty of sunshine and few fluffy clouds floating around.  Breeze was quite a bit stronger today and picked up more so during the evening, as did the cloud, but still very pleasant.

Another superb day – lovely and warm and sunny but with a few more clouds around.  Now quite a covering of cloud (7.15 p.m.) but not the menacing type!  Still very warm – thermometer currently showing 27.6 degrees C.

Very sunny and very warm all day – slight breeze picked up during the day but only served to make it even more pleasant (and bearable in the direct sun!).

Beautiful, beautiful day – very warm and not a cloud in the sky.  Not sure exactly what the temperatures were as each one I look at seems to give a different reading.  The one in the direct sun this morning, at around 9.30 a.m. showed 35 degrees C, and it certainly felt very hot.  Still warm now at 10 past 11 at night – 22.3 degrees C.

Another very hot and sunny day – thermometer was showing around 35 degrees C in the direct sunshine a couple of hours ago.  Showing 25 degrees C in the shade.  Too hot to sit out in it for very long.

29th May 2009Wind finally dropped which left a very sunny and very hot day.  Not sure what the actual temperature was as I was out with my husband cleaning swimming pools but it felt extremely hot!

Totally clear, blue skies but very blustery which made it feel quite alot cooler than of late.  Breeze still going strong early evening though thermometer showing 20.1 C at 10.15 p.m. – not sure I believe it!

Sunny and bright but with quite a gusty wind throughout most of the day.  Did feel quite a bit cooler in the breeze, but definitely not unpleasant.  Wind calmed down early evening and temperature currently showing 23.8 C (at 8.20 pm).

A bit of a cloudy start to the day but soon gave way to blue skies and plenty of sunshine.   Quite a strong breeze in certan areas but still very warm in the direct sunshine.

Started off, very early, with clear blue skies but quickly became very cloudy for the rest of the day.  Odd spells of sunshine, and still warm.  Clouds disappeared again around 5-6 p.m. to leave a very pleasant evening.

A very sunny and warm start to the day but thickening cloud arrived around lunchtime, very suddenly!  Disappeared again about an hour later to leave another lovely day with a bit of breeze.  Slightly cooler than the last few days but still very, very pleasant.

Very, very warm today – thermometer showing up to 32.8 degrees in the direct snshine and with very little breeze, it felt VERY hot.  Put the thermometer on the subed late afternoon and it shot up to 45 degrees so can only think it was the heat o the sunbed matress which was making it rise so dramatically – though it was hot generally!

A bit like yesterday’s weather with sunshine during the morning and cloud thickening during the afternoon/evening.  A light shower in the evening with a bit heavier rain during the night, though apparently there was a lot more rain elsewhere on the island.

Well this was our moving day and what a glorious day, possibly the warmest yet this year – just what you need when you are lugging big boxes around!  Not complaining though.  At nearly 8 p.m. the temperature outside is still showing 22 degrees C.

Oh what a night!  Extremely loud thunder and spectacular lightening, as well as lots and lots of rain.  Rain continuining into the morning but eventually cleared up by mid/late morning.  The afternoon had plenty of sunshine but quite a strong breeze which did make it feel fairly cool.

Last day of April and what a lovely one.  Clear blue skies with very little breeze.  Temperatures around 25-26 degrees C for most of the day.

Clear blue skies all day, with only the odd patch of fluffy white clouds floating by occasionally.  The breeze was a little chilly at times which made the heat  and strength of the sun rather deceiving – I now have red arms and legs to prove it.

Cloudy for most of the day, with the odd glimpse of the sun.  Still feeling warm enough to sit outside with temperatures ranging from 19-21 degrees C.  Skies cleared by late afternoon to give a lovely clear and starlit evening.

More sunshine and clouds with quite a cool breeze.  Lovely when the sun came out but felt a bit chilly when it disappeared back behind the clouds.

A mixture of sunshine and clouds, depending on where you were!  Sunny in Es Castell during the afternoon but just beyond Sant Climent it was very cloudy with a few hints that the sun was there somewhere.  Temperature in shade showing 20.8 (at 5 p.m.) so still very pleasant.

A lovely sunny start to the day with temperatures throughout the day ranging between 17 – 20 degrees C.  Very dark clouds appeared for a while midday(ish) and I understand there were some very heavy showers, though not here in Es Castell.  During the evening/night there was, however, plenty of rain about but this had cleared by morning.

A very grey and wet early start to the day but the forecast was for better things and, as promised, the rain stopped and the sun came out pretty early on in the day.  Quite a breeze which did make it feel slightly cooler but generally a very nice day.

Sunshine and a couple of showers first thing and then things just got better.  Sunshine for most of the day with a few clouds occasionally getting in the way.  So nice we spent a lovely couple of hours on the beach at Es Grau.

Another rainy day with some quite heavy showers at times.  Finally started brightening up by mid-late afternoon with the sun making brief appearances for the remainder of the day.

Will it every stop?  Well it did for a short time around 2.30 p.m. and then rained on and off for the rest of the afternoon/evening, with short spells of glorious sunshine in between – hopefully a sign of things to come in the next few days!
